Thematic Prompt

At the current time I  am not reading any books except for the ones a metioned in my previous post, Harry Potter  & Joyce Meyer,The Confident Women. I will get a review up with textual evidence for you guys soon. Umm....idk what to blog about. Blah, blah, blah. Sometimes Honors English can be a lil boring, but  reading is fun. I mean I like it well enough for a class, but its Thursday right now! Except its Friday basically because we don't have school tomorrow! Yayyyyy!
I AM NOT, blogging over the weekend. So whatever I write in the next three minutes goes.
I am going to do sortof like a "author review". My favorite author is Sharon M. Draper. I love ALL her books. And she's from cicinatti. She writes realistic Fiction. Books I've read from her are: Copper Sun, Battle of Jericho, and etc. Bye!

Maya Angelo

Hey guys we only had to do 5 blogs right? Ok hopefully 'cuz its Sunday and I really don't want to be writing right now so hopefully this is my last blog til later this week.

OK, so last trimester I was in Best Sellers ( a class where you read whatever you want and still get credit for it) and I stumbled across this book when I had some extra time. While I was reading it I was really into it and I was reading almost every single day. When I forgot my book at home I was so sad. That's how much I loved it.
For those of you who may not know Maya Angelo is a very well known poet and actress. She's been in a lot of movies, and her stories are really well written. I don't read a lot of non-fiction 'cuz the only real non-fiction I've really read has been in science textbooks and history text books. I didn't even realize her book "Why the Caged Bird Sings," was about her until I finally caught on OOooooo...the main characters name is Maya...wow.  Some parts REALLY caught me off gaurd. I can not believe some of the horrible things she had to go through.

AnywaysI loved it because the book it self is a very interesting story and the sensory details, imagery and metaphors in this book are so good it makes you anticipate more. Great read. I won't disclose a summary so you can read it, but here's a link below with the details of this amazing autobiography.

Farenhait 451

Ok so I am on prt.3 pge. 123 and so far the book has been pretty decent. I probably shouldn't have waited till the day after the quiz to read the 100 pages of book I didn't know we should have already read (geeze). Needless to say, I failed that test.
But anyways thats not important. Whats important is that I'm blogging Now (Which I'm also kindof behind on..but that all can be excused because at least I'm writing something.) and I'm all caught up on the book, ready for the next pop quiz. I'm going to evaluate all the characters and what they have done so far in the book. Briefly. But if you have not read thus far you might wanna skip this (or read this so you know whats going on w/o reading).

Montag: So Montag finds out that the hound has been stalking him, he reads a peice of poetry to Mildred's friends, one of them freaks out. Montag hides the books, Mildred calls to report him, Montag saves a couple books, his house gets burned down. Montag kills Beaty.
Mildred: After tattling on Montag she packs up and straight leaves. In the cab she is mumbling about her T.V familyy and whatever. She has issues...she didn't even remember Montag. They are complete strangers.
Faber: He is timid and anxious. Montag comes to him for help and he helps him by reading bible verses to him and talks to him through a "seashell". Gives him advice.
Beatty: He dies. And he knew all about the books and Clarrisse for a really long time. Represented big evil government dicatatorship.
& Thats it.  Thanks for looking at my blog post.

About to Read Something New

Hey guys, I have yet to find another book to read yet. I'll find one eventually. Some I'm interested in reading are:

  • Finish reading Fahrenheit 451..because I have to (and last weeek I waited till the last sec. to read and annotate, then it took me like 3 Hrs. Just to read till part three... I was so excited.

In the mean time I'm just chillen'. I will try to pick up a good book soon though. Oooh! but I heard about this really good Crime action novel in this guy's blog post that I really want to read too. But I forget both the name of the guy and the author+ title of the book right now soo... I'll find it and get back to you guys as soon as I can. If I find it and read it. Update: Book review

Front Cover               The last book I've completely finished was a book of poetry. It is called Keesha's House by Helene Frost. The book is made up of small poems made from teenagers who are all going through rough situations and would find themselves homeless, had it not been for Keesha's house. This was a short read-for those of you who don't have the time (desire) to read 400 page dictionaries- nope not my book. It's nice to take a break and read a shorter book. Of Poetry! They only rhyme sometimes but it's still very beautiful and deep. This book is good, even if your not a fan of poetry.

Here, I will read you a passage to see if you are intrigued:
 That One Word...Harris
I got invited to the winter dance
Think how that's supposed to be: Mom, Dad, there's someone i'd like you to meet,
someone special in my life, someone
who loves me as much as I love him.
Freeze frame on that word: Did you say

him? I used to try and think of how I'd say
it, how'd I'd let them no there'd be no dancing
at my wedding, no grande kids. Finally I just told them about him
and watched my world explode.
...(pg. 12)

(Kicked out of your house for being gay..wow. Rough.)

Other characters include:
Stephanie- pregnant, trying to make the right decisions for herself and those she cares about
Dontay-in foster care while his parents are in prison, feeling unwanted both inside and outside the system
Katie-angry at her mother's loyalty to an abusive stepfather, losing herself in long hours of work and school
Carmen-arrested for DUI charge, waiting in juvenile detention center for a judge to hear her case
& more characters...

A friend of mine passed this on to me. I was moved by all the characters it was very emotional and real. Very thoughtful, great read.
- The theme for this story was probably compassion- had these kids had no one to lean on they probably would have ended up high school dropouts living in a car with no job, food, or money. Which is how Harris's story ends..well would have ended;had it not been for his guardian angels who lended him a hand.
