The Female Brain

A book I'm reading currently is called "The Female Brain,"  by Louann Brizendine, M.D. For me I give it a 7/10 rating. It's a very good book. Its about how different a female brain is compared to a male brain. Both sexes are completely opposite; yet share some similarities, like a strong feeling for love and how hormones make us act and feel moody and different (especially during adolescent years). In this book you learn why it is so difficult to be a girl, and the similar girl over-dramatic crisis we feel sometimes as girls. In the book it even gives some logical explanation on why girls are usually better listeners and are better at communicating things then guys are. It gives a physiological explanation on why we can feel intimidated by other girls aand why girls can be so darn emotional. The point of the book is for girls to know why they react the way they react sometimes, and understand that its quite normal for us because, well....were girls. So that's that. This book is very interesting I cant wait to finish reading it! I also recommend "The Male Brain,". Ladies know we can learn why guys think and act the way they usually do, and vise-versa. I hope you guys check out these two enlightening books.

November Blues

A real life issue that is reflected in the text is Teen pregnancies. The author describes how hard it can be to stay in school and keep up your social life and work when you are with a child at a young age. I think the author wrote this work so it can relate to other young girls in similar situations and show them how they could deal with thier problems if they are going through the same thing. I think the point the author was trying to make for this book is that even though things seem immpossible, you can get through them. You may need lots of help, but you can get through them. In lots of books I've read Ive noticed how important it is to hsve that "mother figure" there to help you and guide you. This one its the same thing. Even though Novembers mother is dissappointed in her, she is still supportive through her whole pregnancy. Novembers friend's are also always there for her when times were difficult. So  even when she felt alone, someone was always there to help her. Even though these facts are true, we can alway try our best to prevent them and movwe forward in ourOUR LIFE LIKE november did.

November Blue's

On a scale of 1-10 i give this book a 9. This is one of my favorite books. It is very relatable and gives good details on how the main character is feeling and how the people around her make her feel. Even though I have never been put in her same situation I know highschool is hard at somepoint for everybody, and everyone makes mistakes and has to make their own desicions in every day life. The book is about a girl whos boyfriend dies in a hazing to get into the most popular club in Highschool. The hazing became life-threatening and the boy dies. November (main character) is left devastated with a surprise she does not know how to deal with. With the support of her mom and her friends she learns how to continue in her journey with her very difficult problem. I larned how important it is to have love and support from loved ones from this book, and how we have to move forward when things get tough.

Wilma Rudolph Article

An article I read this week was from About.com about Women's history. It was about Wilma Rudolph, one of the worlds fastest women runners. She one 3 Gold medals at the Olympic Track and Field Games. She accomplished this even though as a little kid she was affected by a very serious crippling disease, Polio. She was a very sickly child, but was cared for by her 20+ brothers and sisters. Her mother always believed in her to do great things. It was always Wilma's desire to run, jump and play like the other kids, but she couldnt because of her leg braces; The doctors told her she would never be able to walk again. But with the support of her family and physical therapists and their unending faith in her to accomplish great things, she never quit. And one day, not only could she walk, she ran.

What we can learn from this article is that it takes perserverence and sometimes hardship to accomplish amazing things in our lives. She has become a great inspiration for me and its amazing how someone who was crippled became an Olympic champion. It shows that hard work and faith in God will take you lots of places and open many doors. she overcame her struggles and came out in victory. This is one of the quotes she said, " I tell them that the most important aspect is to be yourself and have confidence in youself. I remind them that triumph can't be had without the struggle." This is a link to a youtube video of her running, and other people who came from nothing and accomplished great things. I've also learned that having a good influence (such as a caring and determined mother) is crucial for the life of a young child.
